According to guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatrics, a pediatric nephrologist typically provides the following services:
- Dialysis
- Kidney transplantation
- Kidney biopsies
- Interpretation of X-ray studies of the kidney
- Interpretation of laboratory studies related to kidney disease
- Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
- Evaluation and treatment of problems with growth and development specifically related to chronic kidney disease
A Multispecialty Approach to Treatment
Our team is led by board-certified pediatric nephrologists. Expert team members include a pediatric nephrology fellow; a physician assistant; a large nursing staff with specialists in home dialysis, hemodialysis and transplants; social workers; a dietitian; a research fellow; a dialysis technician; and an outpatient care associate. In addition, the team works closely with other pediatric subspecialties and departments at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, including pediatric intensivists and inpatient medical surgical units, to provide coordinated, comprehensive and kid-friendly care.
